So...

2 min read
I know I've been horribly inactive for the past month or so. I apologize profusely. School has been hectic, with projects and papers due, work has been rough (I'm on student government at my school, and with the elections and everything, my particular position has been incredibly busy with events and meetings and stuff).

To add onto all of this, I was in a car accident yesterday morning. A long story short, it was raining, the road was slick, the van in front of me stopped suddenly, we were on a downwards slope, I hit my brakes, my tires locked, and I slid into the back of them. They got away with a cracked/broken back bumper and some paint scratching, but the front of my car is pretty messed up. It still runs just fine, and frankly, the damage is mostly cosmetic. Nobody was hurt (frankly, of the two of us, I think I was worse off. I had to get an emergency chiropractor appointment to make sure nothing was horrifically injured), and while my neck and back are fine, my right leg and ankle really hurt, and I can't walk long distances or make large upward or downward steps easily. I'm a dancer. I was going to audition for a musical in 2 weeks. I'm hoping this is just leftover muscle tension/soreness, and not any sort of sprain or tear.

So if I don't update for awhile, it's because I'm dealing with all of this. :( I spent most of yesterday in tears. Barely held it together at school, but my friend got me through the day.

Fifty Watchers

2 min read

(Well, fifty-one at the time of posting.)

Holy moly....

When I began this account, I was mostly looking for a place to put a few pieces of work that I was particularly proud of out there for people to see and use (in the case of my fan wallpapers). Later, I started posting bits and pieces of my writing as I found my voice and my gift. Someday, I think I want to become good enough at drawing to write/illustrate children's books. Until then, I'm sticking to more teenager-aimed stuff.

When I began this account, I never expected a single person to say "I love your work enough to see every single thing you do." Now there's fifty of you. And while there's 7 billion people in the world, and fifty may not seem like a lot compared to that, to me it's one of the greatest feelings in the world. Your support encourages me to keep posting, to keep trying new things, to improve.

When I began this account, I never expected to make it a near-daily part of my life. I've been on DA for seven months now, (almost eight), and though I've only been really active for maybe four of those, I've found a community willing to support others. I feel safe interacting with folks here. (Well, as safe as interacting on the internet is ;))

And for that, I thank you, from the bottom of my heart.

This person tagged me :iconmarzi17:, and while I don't do these types of things regularly, I'm kinda tired right now and feel like being a little out of character. :D

Rules:

1). You must post these rules.
2). Each person has to share 10 facts about themselves.
3). Answer the 10 questions asked by the person who tagged you and make up 10 questions for the 10 you tag.
4). Choose 10 people and get their icon in your journal.
5). You have to legitimately tag 10 people.
6). No tag-backs.
7). You can't say that you don't do tags!

Ten Things About Me:

1. My random pipe dream is to be a Hollywood actress (even though I'm pretty sure I can't act that well. Wink/Razz )
2. I'm a picky eater, even though it might not look like it since I'm willing to try almost anything once. I will never eat eggplant again. No, I disagree!
3. I currently plan on graduating university with a major in English (specifically creative writing) and a minor in theater.
4. I'm afraid of bees. Like, as afraid of them as most people are of spiders or snakes.
5. I've stayed up all night on more than one occasion just because I could. Meow :3
6. For those of you into MBTI typing, I'm an INFP. And I don't do anything in moderation -- all my scores are extreme one way or the other.
7. I like older music over newer music. I often complain to my parents that, "They grew up in the era of 'I guess the rain's down in Africa' and I grew up in the era of 'Come on baby hit me one more time." :| (Blank Stare)
8. I get into a new fandom at least once a month. However, when I start watching something, I usually become obsessed with it for a couple months and then turn into a normal fan (except for Doctor Who, I am still an obsessed fan three years later :D (Big Grin) )
9. I don't have a boyfriend and never have. Instead, I crush on fictional characters. Love
10. I play ocarina. I am a dummy!

Questions For Me:

1. Would you prefer to have no eyebrows or no eyelashes?

No eyebrows. I'm going to rock that Whoopi Goldberg look. ;P
2. Where do you see yourself in twenty years?
Married, known writer, three kids, I guess?
3. Intellect, or sense of humour?
Intellect. I'd rather be smart and crabby than funny and a straight-C student (not that that's bad, I would just pick intellect over humor.)
4. If you had to choose only one pill out of the following three, which would you pick: ability to speak to animals, being capable of running at supersonic speed, or immortality?
Supersonic speed. I'm gonna be the Flash!
5. The object directly to your right is your weapon in a zombie apocalypse - what is it?
A battle-axe. Head from the body is the only way to kill a zombie. (I wish. xD I got nothing next to me in reality. I'm toast.)
6. Favourite food?
Errgh... spaghetti? Sweating a little... (Cue: PAAASSSTAAA!)
7. iOS or Android?
iOS. I'm just about done with my Android phone. Rage
8. Ariana Grande or Iggy Azalea?
Neither. Giggle
9. Are there any words of wisdom that you'd say to yourself as a twelve year old?
Don't let people tell you what to believe or who to be: In eight years, you'll be the one getting straight A's while they're dealing with relationship problems. (True story.)
10. What's the one thing you couldn't live without?
Probably books. I could do without the internet if it was never coming back, but books... no.

Questions For Those I Tag:

1. Do you like cheese pizza?
2. What trait do you most dislike in others?

3. If you could travel anywhere in the world for as long as you wanted, where would you go?
4. If you had to choose one horrible flaw, what would it be?
5. What job have you done that made you never want to work again?
6. Least favorite color?
7. If you were given the opportunity to spend 48 hours with anyone (and I mean anyone), living or dead, who would it be?
8. Classic rock and roll or country?
9. What's your motto?
10. Cats or dogs?

Perhaps it should be "learning to draw in a manga style" instead.

Anyways, I finally managed to get into a couple of different manga series and maybe four or five anime, and so I, out of the blue, decided that hey, drawing manga sounds like a great idea, why not?

I'm generally terrible at hand-drawing stuff, especially from memory or out of thin air.

So, what do I do? As it turns out, dig around the internet until I find manga tutorials, and what do they recommend as the first step (besides understanding the facial expressions and proportions and all those rather important basics)? Why, copying out your favorite moments, of course!

Well, on the bright side, copy-drawing is something I can do, generally speaking. So, back to the search I go, looking for manga panels I like. As it turns out, Seven Deadly Sins has several rather nice, iconic, rather easy-ish moments in it. Plus, it just so happens to be one of my favorites at the moment.

Okay then. So which one to pick? Oh, why not draw Meliodas? That shouldn't be too hard!

That hair though. Now I know why I've always tried to avoid curly hair, messy hair, and anything not resembling straight, flat, helmet hair when attempting any sort of artwork. It's evil, I tell you. Evil.

However, I managed to sketch one out without horrible difficulty. And for my first *real* attempt at manga, I think it turned out rather well. Now, to try another panel with Meliodas... then maybe we'll move on to the other six deadly sins.
